What Is Being Made

The Collines Cowl is a knitted cowl inspired by the lavender fields of Provence, France. This versatile accessory features a circumference of 150cm (59 inches) and a width of 30cm (11.75 inches), making it a generous wrap-style cowl suitable for layering and styling. The finished piece showcases a distinctive möbius twist construction that allows both sides of the stitch sections to be displayed, creating visual interest from every angle.

Techniques and Construction

The Collines Cowl is worked flat from the cast-on edge, with the designer changing colors and working different textures throughout the construction process. The cowl features multiple stitch pattern sections in floral and earthy colorways that work together to highlight the textural variations created by each stitch. An i-cord finish is applied neatly to both edges of the cowl, providing a polished, professional edge. The signature möbius twist is then added to accentuate both sides of each stitch pattern section, creating a reversible design element that showcases the craftsmanship of the work.

Materials and Specifications

The Collines Cowl is designed to be worked with DK weight yarn. The sample uses Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend, which is composed of 70% non-superwash merino and 30% tussah silk, offering 137 meters (150 yards) per 50g skein. Similar DK weight yarns can be substituted to achieve comparable results.

Needles: US #6 (4.0 mm) needles are used for the main fabric.

Gauge: 20 stitches and 30 rows equal 10cm (4 inches) in Garter stitch worked flat with a 4.0mm needle, measured after blocking.
