The skirt is worked entirely in the round from top down. It begins with a provisional cast on, which is used to allow for a knitted on waistband. There are two distinct sections in the skirt construction: a top portion that features a kangaroo pocket, and the bottom part that features ruffle upon ruffle. Since children significantly vary in height, the skirt length is easily customizable.
