Warm blanket worked in basket weave stitch for the body and a ridged and cabled border with stripes of contrast colours. It does take a lot of yarn, but uses a large hook and works up quite quickly. The written pattern is for a blanket 1.5 yards by 1 yard, however it can easily be made larger or smaller by increasing the starting chain by multiples of three.
