Product Description
My journey of knitting Christmas Stockings began when my son and his wife were expecting their first child, my first grandchild. I wanted to make something that would truly commemorate the blessed event, as well as to embark on a new family tradition. I decided to make a Christmas Stocking for each of the “new” family members. A Christmas stocking is timeless and everlasting.
I now pass on this pattern with hopes that it will become a tradition for your family too!
You are purchasing the pattern for ONE stocking. Yardage given is for one. You will need one skein (approx 225 yd) of each color for each of the stockings.
Uncle's Christmas Stocking by Dorene's Designs
Project Overview
Uncle's Christmas Stocking is an original knitted Christmas decoration designed by Dorene Delaney Giordano as the twelfth pattern in her Christmas Stocking series. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a festive holiday stocking measuring approximately 7 inches wide by 24 inches from toe to cuff. The pattern is part of a family tradition concept, ideal for commemorating special occasions and creating heirloom-quality decorations that can be treasured for years to come.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a full-sized Christmas stocking suitable for displaying as a holiday decoration or filling with gifts. The stocking features a classic construction with a defined cuff, leg, heel, foot, and toe, making it a complete and functional decorative piece for mantels, stockings hangers, or holiday displays.
Knitting Techniques Used
Uncle's Christmas Stocking employs circular knitting techniques worked in the round, which is the traditional method for creating seamless stockings. The pattern utilizes the Magic Loop technique or multiple circular needles, allowing the crafter to begin on two smaller circular needles and transition to a single 16-inch circular needle once sufficient stitches are cast on. This approach eliminates the need for seaming and creates a smooth, professional finish throughout the stocking.
Stitches and Stitch Work
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the pattern excerpt, the intermediate difficulty level indicates the use of fundamental knitting stitches combined with shaping techniques necessary for stocking construction, including increases and decreases for the heel and toe sections, and likely colorwork or textured stitches given the two-color yarn specification.
