Product Description
February release - part of the Fellowship of the Rings collection
this deeply textured capacious wrap is just the thing to wrap up in for long voyages. Will keep the chill form your bones, Now if it only repelled orcs...
Fringed Stole features winding cable patterns to evoke the river Anduin, framed by strong columnar patterns with diagonal lines just like the up-stretched arms of the Argonath statues/gates. The dense cables make this piece look like it has also been carved in stone.
charted directions - if enough people want them , will write up written directions for each individual chart, but will still have to put them together in proper order. To write out individual row by row directions would be prohibitively long, due to motifs having different row reps.
Argonath Knit Shawl by Susan Pandorf
What Is Being Made
The Argonath is a knitted shawl measuring 20 inches wide by 70 inches long, inspired by The Fellowship of the Ring collection. This design draws its name and theme from the Argonath—also known as The Gates of Argonath or The Pillars of the Kings—a monument comprising two enormous pillars carved in the likenesses of Isildur and Anárion, standing upon either side of the River Anduin at the northern approach to Nen Hithoel in Middle-earth lore.
Yarn and Materials
This shawl pattern calls for 7 skeins of String Theory Merino DK yarn, totaling approximately 1960 yards of DK weight yarn. The recommended colorway is Labradorite, though any DK weight yarn of similar yardage can be substituted. Knitters will need US size 5 needles or the appropriate needle size to obtain the specified gauge.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern is worked to a gauge of 6 stitches per 1 inch when measured in pattern. This gauge specification ensures the finished shawl achieves its intended dimensions of 20 inches in width and 70 inches in length.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an intermediate knitting project, the Argonath shawl is suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic techniques who are ready to work with more complex stitch patterns and shaping.
Craft and Technique
This is a knitted shawl pattern designed by independent designer Susan Pandorf. The project utilizes DK weight yarn, a versatile medium weight that creates fabric with good drape and stitch definition—ideal for shawl construction where stitch patterns are meant to be visible and the fabric should flow elegantly.
