The inspiration for this design came from a poem written by the greatest Italian decadent poet, Giovanni Pascoli: ‘Il gelsomino notturno’, which translates as ‘The night-blooming jasmine’. In this poem Pascoli depicts a wedding night in a bucolic setting, describing the fragrance of the jasmine flowers that bloom at night and what he calls a ‘chirping of stars’ in the sky that turns the yard blue. Those two key elements, the flowers and the stars, were my main inspiration and are directly portrayed in the shawl: you can see the flowers in the vertical insertion that is the spine of the shawl and the beautiful allover lace pattern that represents the starry sky extending throughout the two triangular wedges.
