A big, enveloping shawl featuring a brioche stitch that can look like spiraling squares or like diamonds depending on the viewer’s eye.
The stitch has something hypnotic, with its illusory concentric movement that feels very appealing to me. On the LS, the stitch reveals its trick and the diamond shapes are much more obvious, due to the use of the light color. But the shawl is beautiful on both sides and even the striped garter wedges that divide the brioche stripes are perfectly reversible. The shawl is constructed by short wedges worked in garter stitch with slipped columns on both sides of the fabric followed by brioche stripes with the illusion pattern. Each wedge increase the shawl by two Illusion pattern and is shaped by short rows, that become longer short rows on each wedge. This makes the shawl shorter on the top side than on the bottom one.
