Stockinette socks can be the ultimate in mindless comfort knitting, especially when you're using an afterthought heel. Despite the fact that I love to Kitchener stitch, sometimes I resent having to finish off one sock in the pair and start the other, so I figured out a way to knit both socks in one continuous tube of knitting.

Kissing Cousins (so called because the two socks that make up the pair are related but not identical) results in one cuff-down sock and one toe-up sock conjoined at the toes. After afterthought heels are completed, the toes are separated and grafted.

To knit these socks, you need to know how to work in the round, work directional decreases (k2tog, ssk) and lifted increases (LLI, RLI), and use Kitchener stitch to graft live stitches.

In addition to yarn and needles, you’ll need a yarn needle and three lengths of waste yarn to complete these socks.
