The “Meissen Sweater” was inspired by the beautifully shaped and painted ornate designs of Meissen porcelain from my native Germany. This sweater is light and airy, and I added textured ribbing and lace details to copy the filigree edging of the porcelain pieces. The “Tulip lace design” which trails along the sides and sleeve centres was first used in traditional German sock knitting in the early 19th Century and mimics the textured China. The sweater has 10cm positive ease, and after completion of the shoulder saddles the body is knitted from the top down. I recommend this knit to advanced knitters.
