Product Description
This is Ducky, and he features in Toy Story 4! The finished toy measures around 18 cm tall.
This pattern is knitted flat on a pair of knitting needles using double knit wool. This is a simple pattern to follow - if you can knit, purl, increase and decrease then this is within your abilities. The fiddliest thing to this pattern is the use of fluffy yarn, but you can trade this out for normal yarn if you find this too difficult.
To make your ducky you will need: - 3.25 mm (UK 10) knitting needles - Fluffy yellow double knit wool (e.g. King Cole Cuddles or Sirdar Snowflake) - Orange double knit wool - Darning needle - Toy stuffing - A small amount of black felt and white felt - Craft glue - Scissors - Crochet hook
Toy Story Ducky Knitted Toy by Wooly McWoolface
What is Being Made
This is a downloadable knitting pattern for creating a small stuffed toy duck inspired by Toy Story. The finished toy measures 18 centimeters (7 inches) in height, making it an ideal size for a decorative toy or gift. The pattern includes instructions for constructing the duck's head and body as separate components that are assembled together.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses knitting as the primary construction method. The pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic techniques. The design employs several fundamental knitting techniques including increases and decreases to shape the toy's three-dimensional form, as well as color changes to create visual interest. Assembly involves stuffing the knitted pieces and attaching felt details, which adds a mixed-media element to the finished toy.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes the following essential knitting stitches and techniques:
- Knit (K) – the fundamental knit stitch
- Purl (P) – the basic purl stitch
- Stocking Stitch – alternating rows of knit and purl stitches to create a smooth, classic fabric
- Inc (Increase) – knitting into the front and back of the same stitch to add stitches and increase width
- K2tog (Knit Two Together) – a standard decrease that combines two stitches into one
- K2togtbl (Knit Two Together Through the Back of the Loop) – a decrease variation worked through the back loops
- M1 (Make a Stitch) – lifting a strand from in front of the next stitch and knitting into the back to create a new stitch
- P2tog (Purl Two Together) – a purl-based decrease for combining stitches
Materials and Tools
The pattern requires double knit (DK) weight yarn in specific colors to achieve the Toy Story duck appearance. You will need approximately 25 grams of fluffy yellow double knit wool for the main body and head, plus orange double knit wool for accent details such as the beak and feet. Black felt and white felt are used to create the eyes and other facial features, providing sharp contrast and definition.
Essential tools include a pair of 3.25 mm (UK size 10) knitting needles for working with the double knit yarn at the correct gauge. Additional supplies include toy stuffing to fill the knitted pieces, a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends and seaming, a crochet hook for finishing details, scissors for cutting felt, and craft glue for attaching the felt embellishments securely to the finished toy.
