Crochet moss stitch is often called linen stitch, but whatever you call it, it is a simple combination of working a US single crochet (UK double crochet) and a chain. If you change colour every row, you can create a stunning confetti look, or just try it with a variegated yarn and your colour changes won't have any ends to sew in! Whatever you choose, it's a gorgeous double sided stitch so it's perfect for any project!
How to crochet moss stitch step-by-step
1
To start your moss stitch, start by making a simple slip knot.
2
Create a chain.
Your chain should be an even number of stitches, so in multiples of two. (If you're using a moss stitch crochet pattern, the designer will tell you how many stitches to chain!)
3
Work the first row: work a UK double crochet (US single crochet) into the first chain, ch 1, skip a chain and work a UK double crochet into the next chain. Repeat this until you reach the end of the row, ch1 and turn.
4
For row one and all subsequent rows, work a UK double crochet (US single crochet) into the first chain space, ch1, and work a UK double crochet into the next chain space. Repeat to the end of the row.
5
Don't forget to work into the last stitch!
6
Try working in different colours for a gorgeous woven look!
