Step 5 is up and we're super excited to show you how to turn the heel, by shaping the heel in the direction of where the knitting has changed. Let's get started!

Step 5: Turning the heel step-by-step

1

Turn it. Turn the work, so that you have the wrong side facing you.

2

For the next row. Slip the first st, purl 16 sts, purl next 2 together, purl 1, turn so that the right side is now facing you.

3

For the following row. Slip the first st, Knit 6 sts, SSK which is done by Slipping the next stitch as if to knit, slip the second stitch as if to knit, slip them both onto the left hand needle and knit through the back loops of the stitches. This gives a decrease stitch that slopes to the right. Knit 1, turn (wrong side facing you).

4

Next. Slip the first st, purl 7 sts, P2 tog, purl 1 st, turn (right side facing you). Now there are three groups of stitches.

5

Decreasing time. Working on just the centre stitches and decreasing at the end of these central stitches, you are taking one stitch from each side pulling the heel into the right shape. Both decreases will give a nice finish with no gaps or holes.

6

On the centre stitches. Slip the first st, Knit 8 sts, SSK, Knit 1, turn.

7

Next row. Slip the first st, purl 9 sts, P2 tog, purl 1 st, turn.

8

Now. Slip the first st, Knit 10 sts, SSK, Knit 1, turn.

9

Next. Slip the first st, purl 11 sts, P2 tog, purl 1 st, turn.

10

For the next row. Slip the first st, Knit 12 sts, SSK, Knit 1, turn.

11

Next. Slip the first st, purl 13 sts, P2 tog, purl 1 st, turn.

12

Next row. Slip the first st, Knit 14 sts, SSK, Knit 1, turn.

13

For the next row. Slip the first st, purl 15 sts, P2 tog purl 1 st, turn.

14

Next row. Slip the first st, Knit 16 sts, SSK, turn

15

There you go! All the stitches have now been brought into the heel. (18sts)
