    About

I wanted to explore the potential for this aran weight project the tank top in the Felted Tweed yarn has a robust and rustic quality to it. IT looks great with jeans and cords adding colour and texture, but I wanted to see if the soft and easy cables would translate into a much lighter more elegant yarn. I decided to try working two lace weight yarns together, a mohair and lace, I used two different colours (the only two I had) which created a lovely two tone/marl effect.

Being a lofty yarn, the mohair allowed this combination to knit to the correct tension, with no change in needle size, so I didn't have to amend the sizing or dimensions of the pattern at all.

I did however, adjust the fit of the sleeves by only working half the decreases on the armhole shaping so the shoulders dropped slightly, allowing me to work a simpler sleeve by picking up stitches along the armhole edge and working the sleeve from the top down, free styling a cable motif down the centre.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 5.00mm (US 8) 40cm
    • Single Point 4.00mm (US 6)
    • Single Point 5.00mm (US 8)
    • Single Point 5.50mm (US 9) 33cm
    • Single Point 4.50mm (US 7)
    • Single Point 3.75mm (US 5)

    Measurements

    38-40 in

Notes: I halved the number of armhole decreases so I could work a slight dropped shoulder as I wanted a more relaxed fit. I also created more of a scoop neck by shaping the front neck higher up, working all the decreases across fewer rows. I also made it longer than suggested in the pattern by working a full set of cable repeats before the armhole decreases.

The lovely bell shape was achieved by working the cuffs in progressively smaller needles after the final sleeve deceases were worked. Each needle was used for two rows.
