I usually choose to use natural fibres for my knitting, but after worrying about the practicalities of my sheep blanket I decided to have a go at this one in Paintbox acrylic yarn, since the colours are so good.
The yarn quantities quoted in the pattern are very generous so I have included how much I actually used which may be of help to anyone else planning to make this.
It really makes sense to knit the ears and wing in as you go - then there’s no chance of them becoming detached and proving dangerous - the wing has to be knitted upside down to do this). I did use buttons but threaded them on to the yarn at the start of the head section, knitting them in place with a purl stitch when I got there (I marked an eye on the chart so I knew where). For safety I also stitched the buttons in place as well.
I replaced the garter stitch border with moss stitch as I find this lies flatter.
I also knitted the sheep’s body in garter stitch rather than stocking stitch so it looked more fluffy.
