Re-knit, re-knit

I made this for Me! I wanted to encourage everyone who finishes a jumper and then decides they don't like it.

    About

Originally a T-square jumper with a hood, a free range fair-isle pattern going across the front and the back, like the green one in the pics. I wore it 3 times, never took a pic of it (apart from bits included here) and decided I just didn't like it. The sleeves, whilst wonderful to look at, were really hard to get into a coat as they were so deep and therefore the window of usefulness was very small. I liked the bottom though so unpicked the whole thing back to a spot just below where the sleeves started and, as it was worked in the round, made two sleeves and then joined to make a yoke and there you are.

Great result! I've got a cardi in Rowan wool, done the back, fronts and nearly finished 2nd sleeve. It never got finished as the sleeves were too wide and got put to the bottom of my stash!.....One day?

Take out the sleeves and sit and have a rethink as you unpick them. There is not a jot of point leaving them at the bottom of the stash as it is Rowan wool and was therefore jolly expensive. You might have to sew up the armholes a bit and consider picking up stitches around the armhole and knitting down to cuff...that sometimes works well so there isn't masses to unpick if you get it wrong.
I actually knitted about five sleeves...unpicking each time until I got the length/fit I wanted.
Do it now during the summer when there is no rush to finish it.

@Jane R: I actually hadn't thought about picking up stitches and knitting down, so thank you for that! The trouble is I'm not in love with the pattern any more. Every edge is shaped and had to be changed for my yarn so think I might use a pattern that uses Rowan wool next time? Ripple jacket? Watch this space!

Great job. I totally agree with your idea. I’ve had the same trouble with sleeves. Makes the garment pretty useless. Unpicking something can be scary, but it’s certainly worth it if you end up with something you like. 😊
