    About

I bought a large amount of Viking of Norway Nordlys yarn in several colour combinations from Lovecrafts when the yarn was on sale. I have never used it before and wanted to try it out on something small before progressing to knitting wraps and shawls from it. I found it to be a fabulous self-striping yarn with an ombré effect, super soft and mildly fluffy, doesn’t split much at all provided needle tips are rounded and not too pointy, and it knits up very evenly. Highly recommended!!!

Thank you so much Jennifer - I packed up my treasures in half an hour and filled our station wagon to the brim, but as I just threw everything into bags, suitcases etc, at random, it is now taking me forever to put everything back where it belongs :)

Hi Michelle, In winter he is out there in the dark and it gets quite cold on the water, believe me. It will get about 4-5 months of wear a year, which is pretty good for living in the sub-tropics!

I understand now we have been caught out many times when we have been up visiting family and have thought oh we won't need to take jackets, but in winter at night time it does get really cold up there. If he's out fishing he will really notice it, especially If he's not catching anything.😁😁😁

@Michelle M: Thank you Michelle - we received an evacuation order, but it was later cancelled and so after packing up all our treasures I am now in the process of unpacking them. Fire has quietened down, as has the wind - one home lost and many farm sheds - poor wildlife will suffer and many, many lost pets - horses, cats dogs, but which have most likely had the good sense to run from the fire. Firefighters have been amazing and this community is absolutely awesome when disaster hits. People travelled 100s of km with trailers, horse floats etc. to help people they don’t even know get their belongings and animals to safety. Noosa Council had evac centres set up in a flash. Thank you SO MUCH for thinking of me! XXXX

@Australian Jayne: I wasn't sure what to say but I just wanted to make sure you were ok and that I was worried about you. People are incredible aren't they, the way everyone just drops everything and helps. I am so sorry to hear of the losses of buildings and animals, and peoples pets it's going to be a devastating time for you all but we are thinking of you.It sounds like there are some amazing people there to help and support everyone.

@Michelle M: We have been very lucky here, especially compared to all the poor people in NSW who have lost so much. Our local online community noticeboard has kept us up to date with many, many, many pets being found safe and sound, and many horses from various properties gathering together in a herd and staying safe and now back with their owners.

@Michelle M: Thank you so much. As for what to do - there are some great checklists online of what to pack in case of evac, and how to help save your home, and the Fire Services pages on Facebook in relevant states give up to date information.

@Australian Jayne: How's your day been today Jayne,on the news they said they are expecting really strong winds later on.
Thank you for the info on the Fire Services page will definitely have a read and start to get things organised.I have been busy making more pouches for the injured wildlife, I just send them to wildlife vic and they distribute them to where they need them which is lovely.at least I feel like I am trying to help in a wee way.

@Michelle M: Bless you for making items for fire-injured wildlife - poor little things - so many koalas hurt up here. All is well, so far - we have a big, new fire on Noosa north shore (which is separated from the rest of us by the Noosa River - thank God). Stay safe and thank you for all your lovely thoughts and kind wishes. PS: I knit for charity too, although for homeless people, victims of domestic abuse, and remote indigenous communities - we have a great group up here that meets monthly.

@Australian Jayne: I heard about the new fire Jayne but wasn't sure how close to you it was. At least for that one people were ore aware and had time to leave and organise some things, the previous one came so fast it caught everyone out.
Thank you Jayne I have knitted for the wildlife for ages and last night so thought I might knit some wee chocolate covers for the rescuers for Xmas. I have seen the lovely hats you had knitted for your charities.😊

@Australian Jayne: I just saw the pictures of the Fire on the north shore, would you believe they are saying they think it was deliberately lit, how shocking is that.Stay safe Jayne.😊

@Michelle M: Thank goodness the North Shore fire is calming down and so far as I know, no people or houses affected. Lots of wildlife though, so your knitting for our Aussie bush furbabies is amazing *LOVE*

@Australian Jayne: we saw pictures of it and it looked scary Jayne thank golly you have the river between you and the fires.😊I think most of the ladies on LK do some sort of charity knitting or knit things for their families it's a way I think of feeling helpful. I get bored knitting the pouches so I do that in between my other knitting, and when I dont want to concentrate😊😊did you hear they have raised thousands for the koala hospital and they are putting drinking stations in different areas for them to get drinks, how lovely is that.😊😊

@Michelle M: They sound like kindred spirits! He has soooo many things he has not used, looked at, worn, or even unpacked in the almost 7 years we’ve lived here, but most of them are, apparently, things he may need at some unknown future date :) :) :)
