    What are the origins of the lovely virus shawl and how did it get its name? This is what I wanted to know as I set out to make one of my own. I was led to a maker in Germany, it's my best guess that theirs is THE ORIGINAL. I have given you a link here that will take you to their pattern, and to what I believe is the best English translation. I'm taking IONYKA's word for it because her shawl is absolutely beautiful.
    I've heard the name "Virus Shawl" came about because the craze took hold like a virus. But I also have this notion that it's popularity was a result of stir crazy hookers in isolation during covid-19 dying for something to do. It is a uniquely beautiful design whose shapes do remind me of things you would find under a microscope. The first time I saw images of COVID, I saw the vibrant green orbs and marveled, that something so deadly could be so beautiful. My color choice reflects the colors in those first images, Red Heart Unforgettable "Sugarcane" I've since made two more
