Product Details

This is a rectangular shawl in two sizes, each comprising a central eyelet lace motif bordered by a variation of the Shetland Print o’ the Wave pattern, with decorative option of nupps or beads.

The central motif is inspired by the maze detail from the Aberlady Cross fragment, as depicted in Aidan Meehan’s Celtic Design series of books. The Print o’ the Wave borders carry a dual meaning, representing both the grapevine scrollwork adorning the sides of the fragment (the nupp or bead included to depict the fruit of the vine), and the coastal aspect of the village of Aberlady, once a busy port.

The pattern uses a simple construction technique requiring only one graft at the top of the piece to complete the stole - the main body is worked in one piece from the bottom border and then grafted to an identical top border.

Instructions are given for shawl knitted in laceweight yarn in two widths (19” and 23”) and two lengths; a table with information on working additional
