Product Details
The asymmetric Ammonoid Shawl begins with a semi-circle shape from which textured stripes radiate outwards in a curved border pattern. The shawl pattern combines the properties of a half-pi construction with a gradually widening knitted-on border edge. The overall shape of the shawl is reminiscent of a section of a fossilised ammonite.
Beginning with a garter stitch tab, stitches are increased using the half-pi method until the desired depth is reached. Then six additional stitches are cast on for the start of the lower border. This border is worked lengthwise, as a knitted-on edging, in a ridge-stitch pattern.
At the end of every right-side row, the last border stitch is worked together with a “live” stitch from the half-pi section. This continues around the outer edge of the half-pi shape. At the same time, the border gradually widens until the full width is reached.
