Product Details

This spectacular, swirling shawl is named after the aurora borealis (or northern lights), the most dramatic light show on Earth. The slipped stitches in the main color of the shawl are crossed over the multi-color stripes, creating a piece full of movement and color.

The C-shape allows the shawl to wrap snugly around your shoulders, and it works up quickly in Aran-weight yarn. Only one color is knitted per row--no stranding required.

Instructions are provided for using 1 main color and either 1 or 3 contrasting colors, but any number of contrast colors may be used for a stellar effect. Worked top-down, the size is easily customized by adding more rows (see Pattern Notes). Skill level: Advanced beginner. Written instructions are used.

Medium 4-color sample shown used: The Plucky Knitter Traveler Aran; colors: Skies of November, Sugar Cookie, Bashful, Clydesdale.

Large 4-color sample shown used: The Plucky Knitter Traveler Aran; colors: Urban Iron, Technicolor Teal, Cabaret, and Vintage Ice Box.

Large 2-color sample shown used: The Plucky Knitter Rustic; colors: En Vogue and High Cotton.
