This Battenberg square looks like the squares in a Battenberg cake.
The large Afghan squares can be made and sewn together, or the pattern can be knitted continuously to create a scarf (instructions included).
The pattern can also be repeated horizontally as well as vertically, to create a checkerboard pattern for a larger blanket or throw (instructions included).
