Product Details
These lightweight mitts will take the bite out of nippy spring evenings. The body relies on high contrast yarns with an evocatively rustic single-ply spin to make the tram track and dot motifs pop. The sky is the limit for colourful trim; you have the whole world of azulejo tiles for colour inspiration.
The Carimbo Mitts were first published in Pom Pom Quarterly issue 24 in Spring 2018. They are inspired by the 2010 Portuguese postage stamp designed by Eduardo Aires/ Whitestudio to celebrate the unique public transportation in Lisbon that carries passengers up and down the steep streets in the iconic yellow trams.
These are warm but breathable mitts, perfect for the transitory seasons of Spring and Autumn. They are knit in the round from the bottom up with the thumb stitches held and picked up at the end.
The sample is knit in Rosa Pomar's Joao (DK weight; 100% Portuguese merino; 136 m / 149 yds per 50 g ball). I have included alternative yarns here that you can purchase on Love Crafts.
