A Sámi Inspired Hat.
The Sámi are the indigenous people living in the North of Norway, Sweden, Finland & Russia. They consider themselves members of a “land without borders” the Sapmi people. Only outsiders call them Laps or Laplanders. Their numbers are now small & knitting traditions are limited, but rich. This hat is not an interpretation of their knitting motifs, but rather inspired by the artwork of Hans Ragnar Mathiesen, who captures the spirit of the Sámi culture & beliefs with paint & canvas. The Sámi consider themselves the “Children of the Sun” , hence the name.
NOTE: CONTRAST IS IMPORTANT HERE, IF USING CHROMA, BE SURE CHOSEN CONTRAST COLOR CONTRASTS WELL WITH ALL OF THE COLORS IN THE SELF STRIPING YARN. IF ONE SECTION OF THE CHROMA HAS POOR CONTRAST, THEN CUT THE COLOR OUT OF THE MC IF NEEDED OR CHOOSE A DIFFERENT CONTRAST COLOR.
