Granny Square Day takes place every year in the UK in August. This year (2020) I decided to design my own square whilst sitting in the sunshine in my garden scolling through instagram looking at all the lovely squares people were posting. Looking to my garden for inspiration, I settled on one of my cistus (rock rose) shrubs and wondered if I could make a granny square with the cistus flower as its centre piece as it's one of my favourite shrubs. So, I set to work and in less than an hour had created this cute little square, which could be used as a centre piece for a granny blanket or cushion. Alternatively you could make a cushion cover or blanket using many squares. There are many colourful varieties of cistus so the creative possiblities are endless.
