Figure of Eight is worked entirely in garter stitch, using one yarn at a time. You could make it more subtle. You can even leave off the outer shapes and have an 8-pointed star.
The afghan in the photos is approximately 150 cm (60") at its widest part. It is made in pieces which are then joined together. It was made in Aran yarns but instructions are given for any weight of yarn
