Product Details

A geological intrusion is a formation of igneous (volcanic) rock which cools and hardens underground. Magma pushes its way into the existing crust, finding weak spots and cracks, forming sills and dykes of new mineral sandwiched between the older rock layers.

The sweeping short-row sections in this shawl force the solid colour blocks apart in a similar way, creating this asymmetrical sweeping set of curves. * No previous experience with short rows is necessary - these use the simplest method to knit. *

An interesting double-layer picot border completes the picture: as if multiple rock layers have been exposed to the surface and partially eroded by wind and weather.

Intrusion requires 3 skeins of fingering-weight 4ply yarn to complete, in 2 colours (one skein of CC and two skeins of MC). Choose contrasting or tonal palette, or use gradient yarn for even more visual appeal. Heavily variegated yarns are not recommended as the short row pattern might be obscured if the colours are too busy.
