THIS IS A LOOP YARN FINGER-KNITTING PATTERN. Irish Aran knitting patterns have a long and rich history, originating in the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland. Most commonly seen in sweaters, I have replicated those patterns here in blanket form. The Irish Aran Tree of Life Cable Knit Blanket design is a mixed pattern of cable hearts, cable trees (with bobbles for leaves) and a centre staghorn cable chain. Each pattern within an Irish Aran knit design holds meaning: the Tree of Life is said to be symbolic of life's rites of passage or stages of life, and the importance of family. I've added the cable hearts to represent the love of one's family and chosen the staghorn cable to represent strength.
