I got the yarn the pattern recommended; the gauge was substantially different than advertised. I had to rip out different sections about 10 times and use measurements from one of my hats to get the fit and the shape correct. In the final step, installing the strengthening stitches on the brim, I got them most of the way done, but the shape of the hat looked like the Matterhorn. I had to rip out all the strengthening stitches to make it look like a hat again. You can use this pattern, but be prepared to struggle with it.
