From the moment I saw the first trailer for Catching Fire I fell in love with the Cowl that Katniss is wearing. This is my version of her cowl, inspired by the rustic warmth, charm and strength of hers, but made with a few changes to make it a little more wearable (and warm!) for every day. The original garment worn by Jennifer Lawrence in the movie is not a knitted garment, but rather made by hand weaving. I have a nod to this in my version with the hand woven rope detail that you will see where the body splits at the shoulder. This pattern includes instructions for making and placing these braided details. You might be tempted to skip these so you can wear your creation faster, but DON'T. You will be glad you didn't! The cowl is tall, and ends with the same knitted detail that you see on the body. The side is split to enable you to wear it straight up to block out the cold without it also blocking out your face.
The arm opening can be worn on either side.
