It's also customizable; for a longer scarf, chain a greater number of chains than stated in the pattern, for a shorter scarf, chain a lesser number of chains than stated. It's worked lengthwise so you can choose how wide you want your scarf as you crochet, for a wider scarf simply crochet more rows.
