Product Details

Ngaru is the Maori word for "wave". The wave motif in this hat pattern draws heavy influence from [taaniko][1] (traditional Maori weaving) designs and motifs. This pattern is rather special to me, as it is my first to incorporate such designs as a method to connect with my mother's culture.

Yarns used:

  • 1 Skein of Cascade 220 Worsted Black (Main Color)
  • 1 Skein of Cascade 220 Worsted Red (Contrast Color)

Yardage:

  • Approx. 125 yards of MC yarn
  • Approx. 20 yards of CC yarn

(This yardage includes yarn usage for making the pom-pom)

Needle: Size 7 and 8 circular needles or DNPs (you can use which ever method for circular knitting for hats as you like.

Gauge: 5 sts per 1 inch, 6 rows per 1 inch on size 8 needles (after blocking).

Final Dimensions: 8 inches tall, 21-22” circumference (after blocking). Has enough stretch to fit 24” inch heads (though the height will shorten a bit)
