Product Details
This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawl that is comprised of two different lace stitches. The focal stitch of the shawl is a “true” lace that comes to us from Japan, and is quite lovely and unique. The ornate lace edging stitch is added in the traditional Shetland manner, and gives a beautiful and graceful bottom to the shawl.
The shawl measures 74 inches at the widest points across the top and is 26 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size #7 (U.S.) needles. The shawl requires approximately 1100 yards of yarn. The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.
Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).
Any heavy fingering weight yarn or sport weight yarn with a gauge of sts/inch and 6 1/2 rows/inch in lace stitch on size U.S. 7 (4.50) needles will work for this pattern.
