I have long been an admirer of the work of the Pre-Raphaelites. This illusion knit makes use of the Proserpine painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
Photos do not convey the wow factor when the piece is seen in real-life. Illusion knitting is very easy to do.
The hanging shown in the photo was knitted in DK yarn using 3 mm needles. This has given a firm fabric that measures 66 cm (26”) wide and 133 cm (52”) high. Thicker needles, bulkier yarn or looser knitting will give a finished size that may be significantly larger than my version.
I used approximately 800 metres (880 yards) Stylecraft Special DK in Lemon and Midnight (3 balls of each).
The pattern includes several versions of the chart including one specially for phones and tablets.

- You can use any brand and thickness of yarn in two contrasting colours. Use needles slightly thinner than usually recommended for your chosen yarn.
