Product Details

I have recently become fascinated with the contrast between the density of cables and the openness of fagot lace. Following on from my initial two cable and lace scarves I wanted to explore this interaction further and shawls are the perfect canvas to showcase these on a larger scale.

Quaternary features alternating diagonal columns of simple relaxed ‘rope’ cables and fagot lace growing from the centre spine and top edges. Four new columns are created for every pattern repeat, hence the name.

The pattern is both charted (using StitchMastery) and written, is intuitive once you get going and easy to memorize which makes this a surprisingly fast but interesting knit. The pattern can be extended indefinitely - information is included to let you determine how much yarn you will need to work extra repeats.

The featured sample is approximately 55 inches wide x 24” deep, and was made using just under one skein (150 grammes/510 yards) of Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin in colourway Cassis. This is a heavy fingering weight yarn at 340 yards/100 grammes.

Stitches used: garter tab, knit and purl M1 left and right, yo, ssk, p2tog, cable back and cable front
