These mitts are designed to use up small amounts of sock yarn – only 170m, although if you knitted shorter cuffs you could cut this amount even more. I knitted a pair of socks with self-striping yarn, and wanted to design a project that would use up the remains of the ball. This yarn was West Yorkshire Spinners Cocktail yarn, in the Rum Paradise colourway. Each mitt used 5 repeats of the colour pattern. However, the textured pattern would look just as good in a solid colour. The mitts are designed to fit an average female hand, with a stretchy ribbed pattern meaning that they will fit quite flexibly. They have a long cuff which can fold back, a thumb opening, and a long cuff that can fold back or over the fingers. The cuffs can be longer or shorter depending on how much yarn you have left.
