“Sail away with me, What will be will be”
My Sail Away Beanie was inspired by the lyrics of one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite artists, David Gray. To me, the song is about just wanting to be with your one true love no matter what life may throw at you, despite what has gone before and what you may yet face. The lines above particularity resonate because of our taking a giant leap into moving back to Shetland after so many years away. The hat consists of bands of several nautically inspired colour work motifs. The ship itself is based loosely on The Swan, a restored sailing boat which was originally used for fishing for herring here in Shetland in the early 1900s. She is the last of her kind and has now been restored by The Swan Trust, an army of volunteers. She’s now used for boat trips and youth sail training excursions.
