Product Details

Saltmarsh is inspired by the mud and salt marshes around the Colne and Blackwater estuaries that meet at Mersea Island in Essex. This area of bleak tranquility is home to a great variety of wildlife, from wading birds to moths and samphire, but this design draws on the patterns left in the mud as the tide recedes.

Saltmarsh uses both knit and crochet to create texture. Firstly, the aran-weight base is knitted in the round, then this is overlaid with an easy crochet lace pattern in 4ply. The long version can be wrapped twice around the neck. Both versions can be worn in a number of ways, either to show the lace or the smooth side, or twisted to combine the two.

17cm(6¾ins) wide and 70(130)cm or 27½(51)ins in circumference

Knit tension using aran yarn and 5mm needles = 18 sts and 28 rounds to 10cm (4ins) measured over stocking stitch.

Crochet tension using 4ply yarn and 3mm hook = four 6chsp and 12 rnds to 9cm (3½ins) measured over crochet pattern.
