Product Details

The pattern is an even number of 4 plus 4. The even number ensures that you end your rows with shells and not lace. This version of the scarf uses 8 x 4 plus 4 = 36 chain “cast on” for centre back. You’ll have three rows of shells and an additional half shell down each side of the scarf. I chose to use the recommended 3.5mm hook and didn’t work a stocking stitch tension square as this is a crochet object. Instead I worked a swatch in different sized hooks and came to the conclusion that the 3.5mm hook did give the best result with firm looking shells and chains. I’ve counted 50 shells from centre back to reach the desired length of 88cm per half, 176cm total length, however you could make your scarf longer or shorter as desired. I used 1.5 skeins per half, 3 skeins in total. Even 1 ball per half could work for a shorter scarf, 59cm per half, about 118cm total length. US stitch terminology is used throughout.
