About the Design: This cardigan jacket was such a pleasure to knit, thanks to the super-soft baby alpaca yarn and the easy-to-knit faux cable pattern. The stitch pattern is called “Smocked Ribbing”, which is ribbing wrapped with the working yarn, at regular intervals. SC with slip stitch edgings = quick finishing. Celtic knot buttons mimic the cabled appearance of the stitch patterning.
I used Indiecita’s Baby Alpaca DK, held double throughout, but knit with a smaller needle size than would ordinarily be used. Alpaca has little resiliency and wanted to counter its tendency to stretch.
Indiecita Baby Alpaca DK,100% superfine alpaca, 125 yds/50 g ball: 19 / 23 / 28 / 33 balls #2010
Gauge: 20 sts and 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st, 30 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Smocked Rib Pattern, as knit, and 22 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Smocked Rib Pattern blocked, using size 8 ndls and 2 strands yarn held together. To save time, take time to check gauge.
Happy Knitting! Dawn

- Notes
- 1) Buttons used were 7/8" Celtic Knot pewter buttons. 2) I have suggested Plymouth Baby Alpaca DK as a substitute for the Indiecita Baby Alpaca DK.
