Product Details

The Bonnet Carré Spillway is a nearly 6-mile long ditch that serves as a flood release valve for the mighty Mississippi. There are 350 bays that can be opened to release river water into the spillway and onto Lake Pontchartrain. The Spillway has only been opened 15 times in 90 years but it’s a spectacular event when it happens.

The great frothing columns of water created by the Bonnet Carré inspire these simple socks. They feature repeated panels of bubbling eyelets that course from ankle to toe. This is an easy pattern suitable for the first time sock knitter. They’re worked top down with a heel that is shaped with short rows. The toe is a classic wedge.

The Spillway Socks are part of "Wetlands: Knitting in the Deep South Vol I", my new eBook!
