Summer Solstice
Suggestive of sunrays peeking through the Stonehenge site during the period of the summer solstice in June of each year, this block is heavily post-crocheted, thereby, technically intermediate in difficulty. Beautiful 3-dimensional effect is achieved by clever smooth increases and decreases along the edges of the shapes, and alternate front and back post crochets throughout the piece.
Quite some attention was given to making sure the block when completed, lies flat and is evenly distributed, and that the corners do not create unattractive kite-shaped forms.
The block is difficult to work in one sitting, and working it is hard on the wrists. It is also a yarn hog, using easily over 100 grams total for the 12" size.
There are [round photos][1] available in the Spoiler Thread for this block, starting in Post 20. You can also view them in my project for this block, found [here.][2]
There is also a [tutorial][3] there on the special stitches--Post 19.
