The textured cuff and elongated stitches add detail to the chainmail-resembling reverse stockinette part, which is worked with the fabric inside out, to spare you all the purling.
The pattern is perfectly suited for those handpainted, varigated sock yarns where the coloures are rather blended together than seperated in long sequences. (Like in my example.)
