For the plaid colouring in this scarf, you will need three different colours. One of those colours will be the main colour—used throughout every row—so you’ll want to make sure it complements both of your other colour choices.
To create the checkered look, alternating colours are carried under your stitches throughout the rows in this pattern. If you’ve never tried carrying yarn across, this pattern is a great opportunity to try it! Once the length of the scarf is finished, it is sewn together in a loop. You’ll add a single crochet border on both edges to hide your carried stitches up the sides.
