Product Details
n this accessory garment, a stand-up collar combined with unusual short-row shaping in the shoulders creates a striking silhouette. The White Witch of Narnia, Maleficent and Miranda Priestly would all feel at home in this - but it can also be worn by mere mortals. Pair it with a strapless dress for a formal winter occasion, or throw it on over a simple top at work. It is named for the Parisian designer Madeleine Vionnet who helped popularize cape dresses in the ‘20s and ‘30s.
This cape is worked from the top down. Make 1 increases shape the back and front and the shoulders are shaped using a series of German short rows, similar to a sock heel. This creates a strong, defined shoulder and keeps this garment firmly in place. When increases are completed the piece is worked straight to the hem. Stitches for the collar are picked up on smaller needles and worked until it can be doubled and sewn down. The hem is finished with a modified i-cord bind off and a little Kitchener stitch.
