spice up your socks…
Non-stranded, non-intarsia colourwork socks to make the most of those last few yards of sock yarns that are far too precious to throw out. Use one, two, four or even eight contrast colours. There are optional zigzags on the back of the leg too which allow you to use up even the odd yard of scraps.
There is a little extra ease approaching the ankle and these extra stitches are decreased away again after the heel. The heel itself is worked with short rows, shadow wrap/twinned stitches and two “boomerang” rows around the whole sock. You could easily substitute in your own preferred heel construction, but it is a lot easier than it sounds!
The pattern can be worked at different gauges. There is a table included for the length from toe to cuff for different numbers of zigzags for different row gauges.
The socks will look at their best using a solid or semi-solid main colour and high contrast colours to really show off the zigzags.
These socks can be knit cuff down but require a little forethought and maths to optimise the number of zigzags - guidance notes are included at the end of the pattern.
