Debbie Bliss First Knits is a new book from Quadrille publishing, jam packed with 20 gorgeous knits for babies. It is a knitter’s journey from the simplest first projects through to complex cables and Fair Isle, with lots of help and advice along the way, from how to cast on and how to wash your garments, to managing tension and how to create perfect colorwork.
Knitting for babies is a great way to build your skills and learn new techniques without having miles of sleeve to finish or a man-sized back to knit. With Debbie’s new book you can start with simple projects and learn new techniques as you go!
I am often asked what I knit for pleasure and the answer is always the same – items for babies.”
This adorable top is knitted in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino - a super soft blend of wool and cashmere, with some acrylic added to make it machine washable. You'll need 2.75mm and 3.25mm needles, and a tapestry needle for sewing up.

"A ballerina-style top has the advantage of being not only attractive but also really practical. On a small baby the tie fastening can be a lot easier to achieve than trying to do up tiny buttons on a cardigan, especially when you are in a hurry. A lace edge, such as the one I have used here, adds a bit more decorative detail to a simple top."
