Product Details
Coggalbeg Cowl is inspired by the geometric surface decoration on gold lunulae in the collection of the National Museum of Ireland.
This pattern is cast on along its length; it is knit back & forth using a combination of mosaic knitting and slipped stitch patterns in garter stitch, so only one colour is worked at a time. The cowl is finished with applied button bands. The cowl can be worn with buttons closed as a long cowl or wrapped twice around the neck, or unbuttoned as a scarf.
The pattern includes written & charted instructions.
Gauge: 27 st per 10cm / 4” in blended stripes and mosaic patterns, after blocking. Gauge is not critical but will affect yarn usage & finished size.
Needle: 3mm or size needed to achieve gauge. I used an 80cm circular needle to allow for width of knitting.
Other materials: Darning needle for weaving in ends Stitch markers 6 x 8mm /.5” buttons; sewing needle & thread grosgrain ribbon or tape (optional)
