My niece lives by the coast, and I chose coastal colours for the new arrival (a boy).
This is a pattern I've used several times, but I adapted it slightly, and knitted the cardigan in one piece up to the armholes, to cut down on the number of ends that needed sewing in.

I knit most of my cardigans in one piece to the armhole, it works well with stripes as you are not struggling to match the colours.

In fact I carried on knitting in one piece after the armholes. When I knitted the sleeves, I added more of the first colour at the cuff, so that the sleeve was long enough, and the stripes would match up at the raglan. I did find the first few rows of the raglan really fiddly, as when you join the sleeves in, you have so many stitches under the armhole all bunched up on the needle. I'm not sure if there's any easy way round this?
Despite the fiddle, I think I'll try this method again, almost no sewing up needed.
