    About

We saw a jumper very similar to the pattern in a shop and I offered to knit her one - most definitely cheaper to do and she got it in the colours she wanted, result! It gave me a chance to use a new yarn and one I would choose again, it’s a lovely variegated yarn.

Hi Ann I’m currently knitting this jumper and I’m a bit stuck on the sleeves. Ive changed needles and done the first 2 rows of the pattern. Then it says “cont in patt, inc 1 st at each end of 3rd and 2(11:11:4) foll 6th rows” I’m making the second size so what does the 11 in brackets mean? Probably really simple, I just can’t work it out! Your jumper looks great. Thanks Bella

Arabella, apologies this has only just come up on my feed and you’ve probably answered this for yourself by now but just in case - it means increase at the end of the 3rd then do 11 lots of 6th row increases which if my counting is right takes you to 63 stitches. Then it moves to increases on every 8th row until you get to 67. I hope that helps. It’s a lovely jumper when it’s finished and it sounds like you will have your own very soon! Best wishes Ann

Thank you very much for your kind words and encouragement. I have now purchased the pattern, and will enjoy choosing some yarn and then hopefully start knitting my first jumper.

That is a beautiful jumper. What a lucky friend. I’m a new knitter, can’t believe I’ll ever make something quite so lovely.

I’m sure you will and sooner than you think. If you want to give this jumper a try it’s not a difficult pattern at all, only knit and purl. It’s the wool that makes it looks special and variegated wool is always a good choice for hiding any mistakes. 😂 Whatever you knit, have fun and keep learning, I still am!

@Gillian T: It should knit up beautifully. I see you are well skilled at cables, they’re not my favourite, I haven’t knitted them for a while. I’m trying to master Intarsia, bobbins everywhere!

@Ann J: I was brought up in Ireland and learnt cables early as I took my knitters badge in Guides. So any cables, moss stitch and variations I can do as long as I concentrate and count. But colour is another level altogether. I just cannot get the tension right. So I have great admiration for you. I’ve only attempted fair isle once, for the above badge but never tried intarsia. I have got a pattern for a jumper with a butterfly motif so just maybe I will have a go before both my granddaughters become teens !

@Gillian T: At least now we have the benefit of Youtube! I watched a few videos and then thought I’d give it a try. I picked up lot on tension and finishing from the Marley Bird Intarsia video. My thought is no one has to see it if it’s a disaster, I’ll just unpick and start something new!
