    About

I have made various christmas characters for friends and family this year which I have guite enjoyed as there has been no pressure to complete orders. I have also enjoyed being able to choose what I wanted to knit. This is the last knit for now for my good friend. I finished it off today while listening to the latest developments in this country because of Covid. I feel so sad and frightened at the alarming turn of events and I am thinking that there will be empty shelves in the supermarkets over the next few days although I hope I am wrong. It is going to be hard to get in the festive spirit this year.

Thanks Michelle, It is a wooden nose. My sister made a gnome for me along he same lines as this one but it is crochet. It had a wooden nose. I took some cards to her house on Sunday and she gave me a bag of beads and bells and I thought I'd use a wooden bead for my gnome just for a change. I was only able to stand outside in her garden and chat for a little while. Today I have been to my son's with his cards and did the same but in the rain and then to my brother's to wish him and his wife a happy birthday. They have the same birth date. Once again, I stood in their garden in the rain, keeping a safe distance. At least I got to see my granddaughter who is an absolute treasure. My son asked her if she wanted her sand pit opened and she said "Yes Daddy, that would be lovely" She is only two! We just have to be grateful for what we do have at the moment and not worry too much about the things we are having to do without.

@Denise C: oh I am so glad you have been able to catch up with your family members Denise and your wee granddaughter sounds like she's such a gorgeous wee girl and so well mannered.😊I agree with you it's not the Christmas we would like but we don't have a choice and we will get through it. In Melbourne we are not in such a hard lockdown as you are but we had 7 months of it so I understand how hard it is. Take care my friend I can't believe another Christmas is here, do you know we have been chatting on here for over two years now.🤶🎅❤

@Michelle M: It is lovely to have friends like you in the community to chat to. We have formed a lovely little group and have made many friends who support each other and help keep our spirits up especially over the last 9 months. Many things have happened to us all which were never imagined and yet we have got through them with the help of our family and friends and when I say friends this includes everyone here on the knitting community. We all share the same interest in our craft and over the last 9 months we have shared our fears and hopes and have supported each other during this terrible time. It's lovely to think that we can form friendships and support each other even though we have never met and wouldn't it be lovely if we could meet and have a good old natter in person. You are so right about my granddaughter, she is very polite. She gets this from her mum, Max, who was born in South Africa then moved to New Zealand and was educated by nuns! She looks like Max and is

Thanks Dianne. I have lots of faux fur as I was going to knit more Gnorse and Gnillas but things didn't turn out the way we expected this year. Snuggle will be a regular now at Christmas along with all the other gnomes I have been knitting for myself this year. It was a very easy knit and I think I will be knitting a few more next year all being well.

@Denise C: I have lots of faux fur too, I was thinking I might do a kitten at some point. I saw your reply to Michelle, I did notice your gnomes wooden nose, I thought that was a nice touch.

@Dianne S: I would never have thought about using a wooden bead if it wasn't for my sister using them for her gnomes. I think they might work with some of the other gnomes too instead of knitting them. I quite like the effect. You can get them in all different sizes. I love the fur yarn especialy the one I used on this gnome. I love the colour of it too. I would like to make a furry critter but you know how I struggle with them. Maybe in the new year when things are quiet I might look for something simple to make and use it up. Good luck with your kitten.

@Denise C: I must look out for wooden buttons, I didn’t like the nose on my gnome as I thought it was huge! Have a nice Christmas as much as you can Denise. 🎄

Thanks Sue. I think it was King Cole luxe fur that I used. It's a lovely yarn so soft and silky. I don't mind using it for beards as they are easy to knit but I find it challenging using it for little furry critters as I always end up having a disaster with it.

Your wee gnome is fabulous and cheery Denise, your friend will love it.
It's definitely hard to feel festive this year but if everyone is sensible (and I know some won't be) we'll get so see our loved ones at some point. It's safer to miss seeing folks on Christmas day for just one year rather than risk infection. Roll on the vaccines - can't wait to get one.💕💕

I agree with you Michelle. I am prepared to make the sacrifice this year in the hope that we will have many more in the future. I will be happy to have the vaccine too but I will be waiting a while yet as I am quite low on the list. However, in the meantime I will carry on knitting!

Thanks Pam, He was fun to make and quite a quick knit but the hat took a bit longer. Quite quick to put together, which was a plus.
